When a library outgrows its walls, an entire community outgrows its access to opportunity. That’s why the Foundation leads capital campaigns that transform libraries into spaces worthy of what they make possible — for today’s neighbors and generations to come.
Our current campaign is transforming downtown Washougal: growing a 2,300-square-foot library into a 14,000-square-foot hub built for how people actually use it — gathering, learning, creating, and connecting. Learn more.
As FVRL’s district continues to grow, Washougal won’t be the last library that needs this kind of investment. The Foundation is committed to leading the philanthropic charge behind every future library expansion — because every community deserves a library built for its future, not just its past.
Your support brings neighbors together around a shared book — sparking curiosity, connection, and conversation that carries far beyond the last page.

When school lets out, hunger and learning loss don’t take a break. This program keeps kids reading and fed, pairing summer reading fun with free lunches so no child goes without either one.

Reading in Action pairs low-income families raising elementary-age readers with a four-week series of enhanced storytimes, discussion, and hands-on activities — hosted with local community partners. Ten to fifteen families at a time build reading skills and confidence together, one week at a time.

Community Reads turns a
single book into a district-wide conversation, uniting readers of every age and background around shared stories and ideas.
With your support, we fund libraries’ acquisition of books, digital books and related resources, and the new Library of Things. However, the Foundation cannot direct gifts to obtain specific items for collections.

The Foundation leads the “vote yes” advocacy campaigns to secure public funding for the libraries. Most recently, the Foundation and Friends of the Library groups helped a property-tax levy lid lift pass in summer 2025. Your support strengthens our staff and volunteers, and ensures we have the resources to be ready for the next ballot — and the next win.
